Homemade Taco Seasoning
Homemade Taco Seasoning
(V, VG, GF)
Get ready to ditch the pre-packaged taco seasoning you get at the store. This homemade version is more vibrant, fresh, and will really pack a punch to anything you use taco seasoning in. Whether it’s a batch of “taco meat” (if you live in the Midwest, you know what I’m talking about), a crock pot of Nacogdoches Texas Soup, or your favorite chilis and dry rubs, you won’t be going back to those nasty pouches of McCormick anytime soon.
Yield | ~1/2 c
Ingredients
3 Tbsp chili powder
3 tsp cumin
3 tsp garlic powder
3 tsp smoked paprika
1 1/2 tsp oregano
1 1/2 tsp onion powder
3/4 tsp kosher salt
3/4 tsp black pepper
3/4 tsp crushed red pepper
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk to combine thoroughly. Store in an airtight container and use in place of any packaged taco seasoning. I’ve found that 4 Tbsp of this mix replaces a typical sized store bought pouch.

Since this is simply herbs and spices, just add as much as you like to your favorite dishes and there’s no need to factor insulin into just this seasoning.
